~ A Slave Two Times ~

I am a slave two times;

because I am black,

because I am a woman.

I am a slave two too many times.

Because I am black!?!

Because I am a woman!?!

Disbelief sandwiched between outrage...

Born over 100 years ago.  Borne today.

In a small house, under poor circumstances,

in a racist country.

I tread through the night,

without beds, a light that led,

my head bled from the rock that

can represent America.

What state am I in?

Panic or Maryland?

Feeling revealing sounds that abound,

all around on MY underground railroad.

We are lost and found,

yet maintained by the sound

of a gun and the freedom that abounds

in the promised land.

I was a slave two times.

But now I am a hope to times unknown.

Because I am black.

Because I am a woman.

And my train continues on

to the North.
